Q. How do I read a call number?

Answer

Call numbers on library materials are created using the Library of Congress (LC) classification system. In this system, books on the same topics are shelved near each other. You can browse materials based on the LC subjects. The system is alphanumeric. See our How to Read a Call Number page for additional details, including a video demonstration and example call number.
