Scholarly articles, which are also called peer-reviewed, academic, or refereed articles, are written by experts in academic or professional fields. They are excellent resources for finding out what has been studied or researched on a topic.

Scholarly articles are found in many online library resources, such as EDS and Academic Search Premier. After performing an initial search, look for a facet or limiter that will allow you to narrow your search results to peer-reviewed, scholarly, or academic journals. (The terminology may vary depending on the database provider, but the functionality will be similar across resources.)

Learn more about scholarly vs. popular periodicals in our interactive tutorial.

If you already have a citation and would like to see if the library has the article, you may search for the citation using our Citation Linker tool. (This tool is also linked from the library homepage.) Enter as many citation details as possible to look for the article within our collection.

Please contact a librarian if you have additional questions regarding how to find scholarly articles on a specific topic.
